General Information
Chef Apprenticeship – SIT30821 – Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
The Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is only available through an apprenticeship pathway (chef apprenticeship). This course provides a pathway to work as a commercial cook in various kitchen settings, such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs and cafes.
A chef apprenticeship is for a nominal period of 4 years. As an apprentice, you and an employer have a formal agreement called a training contract and generally your off-job training will be completed in 3 years.
This course reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of well-developed cookery skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations to prepare food and menu items. Using discretion and judgement, apprentices will work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
No training will be conducted during peak industry periods (December and January).
