SIT30622 – Certificate III in Hospitality

The Certificate III in Hospitality will prepare you to work in a range of job roles within the hospitality industry. This could include working as food and beverage attendant or behind a bar in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, pubs, clubs and cafes.

This qualification reflects the role of skilled hospitality workers who use a range of well-developed hospitality skills, as well as provide operational advice and support to team members.

This means you must be employed under a contract of training. This allows you to learn whilst you earn and is a suitable pathway for those wishing to enter the industry with little to no prior experience.

Learning Outcomes

SIT30622 – Certificate III in Hospitality

15 units must be completed to achieve this qualification

6 core units
9 elective units

Core units (compulsory) – all of the following

SITHIND006 Source and use information on the hospitality industry
SITHIND008 Work effectively in hospitality service (this unit of training requires performance evidence of providing service to customers for a minimum of 36 complete service periods)
SITXCCS014 Provide service to customers
SITXCOM007 Show social and cultural sensitivity
SITXHRM007 Coach others in job skills
SITXWHS005 Participate in safe work practices

Elective units (compulsory) – one of the following

SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety *prerequisite for bar, coffee and food & beverage
SITHIND005 Use hygienic practices for hospitality service

Elective units – a total of 8 units can be selected from the following list and the selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought

SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol *mandatory where alcohol service involved
SITHFAB022 Clean and tidy bars
SITHFAB023 Operate a bar^
SITHFAB027 Serve food and beverage
SITHFAB024 Prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages
SITHGAM022 Provide responsible gambling services^
SITHGAM023 Attend gaming machines^
SITXFIN001 Process financial transactions
SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
SITHFAB030 Prepare and serve cocktails^

Elective units – a maximum of 2 electives from the following group

SIRXCEG008 Manage disrespectful aggressive or abusive customers
SITXINV006 Receive store and maintain stock
HLTAID011 Provide first aid
SITXFIN007 Process financial transactions

Upon successful completion, you will be issued with an Academic Transcript listing the units completed and the qualification:

You must be 18 years or over to undertake some elective units within this qualification which are highlighted with ^.

Successful completion of this course does not guarantee approval as a Responsible Person or a Gaming Attendant/Manager.

Approval must be sought through the Licensing Authority.

Course Details

SIT30622 – Certificate III in Hospitality

This training is offered through a rolling intake therefore students can commence at any time.

Training is delivered over a nominal term of 24 months full-time or part-time equivalent. A timetable will be developed for each trainee as determined by the employer and trainee.

A training plan will be developed with the student and the employer to include core and elective units prior to enrolment.

Training will be conducted at the following sites:

Training will include a mix of self-paced and face-to-face training sessions.

Assessment will include a combination of both theory and practical observation as well as third-party observation.

All course materials will be provided to the student and access to the internet will be required for units of training to be completed online

SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality is only available through an traineeship arrangement.

Course fee – $2000 (fee for service)

This course is funded by the State Government through the Subsidised Training List (eligibility criteria applies). If eligible for subsidised training, a $400 student co-contribution is payable on enrolment (this is non-refundable should you decide to withdraw or not complete the qualification).
