Accessibility to Learning at HITsa Salisbury

Linda* was keen to attend a skill set class at HITsa, but was worried she would not be able to read the material due to her eyesight and because she needed new glasses. Linda discussed her concerns with the Business Manager and Coordinator who came up with a reasonable adjustment to the resources for her. Linda attended her classes and with this adjustment to the resources she was delighted to be able to participate in the class. Linda completed her course and was thankful that this adjustment enabled her to be able to complete the course and receive her certificate.

Do you need to be at the front of the classroom because you need extra support or struggle to hear people talking? We have reserved seating signs that we can put out so that you can be seated near the trainer so that you can be supported and can hear the trainer easily.

Do you have a mobility issue and can’t take the stairs? There is a lift at the Salisbury site for those who need it – and for those that just don’t like stairs.

Are you worried you will have difficulty keeping up with the reading? Student manuals (for Qualification courses) can be issued the week before so that you can have the time to read, highlight and make notes before attending class.

If you think you will be unable to study because of learning difficulties or physical limitations or other barriers to learning, have a chat about your concerns with a Coordinator or Business Manager. They may be able to help you to identify practical and reasonable adjustments that align with your needs to enable you to study and fulfill your goals.
