Basic Skills for Retail

HITsa offers a number of introductory skills courses such as Basic Skills for Retail. During the Basic Skills for Retail course students will study units including Engage the customer, Work effectively in a service environment, Communicate in the workplace to support team and customer outcomes, Balance and secure point-of-sale terminal, Sell to the retail customer and Produce visual merchandise displays.

The unit ‘Produce visual merchandise displays’ is a very hands-on experience for the students and allows those with a creative flair to put their skills to the test. They are required to set up three different displays, including a festive one. Below are some pictures of the visual merchandise displays that were created by our recent class. Scott the trainer (who was happy to be the model for the festive display) encouraged the students to be creative while also creating some professional looking displays using items found around the Salisbury site.
