Can Care August 24
Employability Skills Training
Preparing the Next Generation of Carers and Cleaners
Since March, HITsa has been running a transformative Employability Skills training program in both the North and South regions called Can Care.
The program introduces participants to the vast range of employment opportunities available in cleaning, aged and disability care. Training is focused on developing skills and knowledge to support a range of jobs such as commercial cleaning, home care, and / or the delivery of high quality care to the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
The Can Care training program incorporates 5 nationally recognised units of training, relevant non-accredited training and employer networking across 13 days. A blend of theoretical and practical is provided in simulated work environments, ensuring participants are well-prepared for real-world experiences. Whether it’s understanding the principles of compassionate care or mastering practical techniques, this program equips participants with a solid foundation to enter the caring and cleaning sectors.
Working in the caring and cleaning sectors is more than just having the right skills; it requires a genuine passion for helping others. A number of mandatory checks must also be undertaken to protect the safety of those receiving support and care. Many of these can be initiated before securing a job, and most employers or service providers are ready to assist in this process.
For those considering a career in this field, here’s a checklist of what most employers look for on a resume:
- Proof of Working Rights: a birth certificate or passport
- Visa: if applicable
- Federal Police Check
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Manual Handling Certification
- Proof of Immunizations
- Infection Control Training
- NDIS Clearance Screening
A highlight of the program is the graduation day, a celebratory event where students’ achievements are recognised. This day also provides an invaluable opportunity to hear from industry experts, who share insights on what it takes to succeed in the field. Their guidance helps bridge the gap between training and employment, giving participants a clear understanding of the industry’s expectations.
Below are some recent testimonials from graduates, as well as photos of students undertaking practical skills training in our Skill Centre:
“It is a game changer to have local quality training to encourage growth and development focused on gaining employment. Highly would recommend. Giving opportunities to open new doors and new options.” Darren | “All of the units that we have covered in Can Care at Mount Barker were delivered very well. I enjoyed studying in this new building which seemed purpose built. I also enjoyed the class style of learning. It was really beneficial to have teachers in class to bounce off of. I would definitely come back to engage in a qualification course.” Leanne | “Enjoyed the training and the trainers. Some days were intense but overall grew confidence in getting a job. I would come back if I ever needed more training.” Grace |
If you or someone you know is interested in pursuing a rewarding career in aged care, disability support or cleaning, this training program offers the perfect starting point.
