Meet Marie, Health Trainer

Where were you born? I was born in New Zealand. I have lived, worked and studied in Australia since 1993.

Tell us about your work history: I commenced with HITsa in July 2023. Prior to this, I have experience as a Community Support Worker and Assistant in Nursing.

Prior to my career in health, I acquired a Diploma in Business Management and additional studies studies in Beauty Therapy, Nursing and Individual Support.

For a number of years I did media make up, then I owned a beauty retail business for 5 years specialising in natural make up and skincare products and beauty/massage services.

Tell us about your family: I am a single parent to 7 children, 1 of my children passed away in 1997 due to Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

My children are now adults and I have eight young grandchildren. I am a carer for my 11-year-old nephew who lives with me and my fur babies; a dog and a cat.  My adult children have all successfully acquired qualifications as adult learners  working in industries such as nursing, plumbing and community services.

What do you find is the most rewarding thing about training? Helping students reach their goals on a daily basis and passing on the knowledge and experiences I have acquired over time.

I value care and the responsibility I have as a a trainer to be able to influence and encourage others. I am excited about the difference I can make in a students life daily. I love this job!

What is the most challenging thing about training? I love a challenge, but not the technology type – like when a Powerpoint won’t work as I would like it to!
