School of the Air July 2024
School of the Air
HITsa has collaborated with ‘The School of the Air‘ – a unique Australian Correspondence school for Australian children living in remote areas. The school uses a combination of traditional correspondence teaching methods complimented by cutting edge technology.
It has been 3 months since HITsa started training our School of the Air students that are completing the CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services.
A current student, Molly, would like to share her ‘virtual’ journey with HITsa thus far;
“I am enjoying the different topics I didn’t do at Uni and learning with a small group of other governesses completing studies at the same time. We are all balancing jobs and further education whilst living so remotely – it is an exciting experience.
A governess is someone who helps supervise students completing their primary education through School Of The Air (SOTA) or other online schools. We live on the stations during the school year, so we very much work and live in small communities usually consisting of the family and a few other station staff.
Governesses have been around for a very long time. We spend a lot of time with the kids we supervise by supporting, playing, baking and hanging out with them. These children are often the only kids on the station where they grow up. It can be hard some days to be motivated to complete some of the sessions as we finish school at 3 and start our online session at 3, but I like to think about what I’m gaining from the experience of this course. Our trainer has made the experience quite fun, with a few laughs here and there”.
