“I was very skeptical initially and excited about my work placement as this is completely a new industry for me and I am in the transition phase into a new career. 

My placement was at ‘Empowering Futures‘. I found that management were very approachable for any discussion and feedback and the team of support workers that I worked with very friendly and helpful in getting the queries answered and helping in the application of skills in real life.

Every client is different and working with them with the help of support workers and shadowing them is a totally awesome experience. Every participant that I worked with had different needs to support, with various behavioural concerns. The team has taught me various strategies that I can follow during these situations as part of my Duty of Care. The scheduled programs for the participants were very inclusive and interactive in unleashing the potential of the participants subscribing to the principles of the organisation – Voice, Choice and Control with the true meaning of “Empowering Futures”.

The management and the team were very supportive in every aspect of my learning including during work placement hours where I acquired new to me practical skills, based on the knowledge that I acquired from the classroom and training sessions from HITsa.  I am more than happy to share that I was offered a job immediately after my placements and I am very excited to join and start my new career.
