Pre-Apprentice Cookery Course – Certificate 2 in Kitchen Operations SIT20416
The Pre-Apprentice Cookery Course is being offered as a pathway into an apprenticeship.
An apprenticeship is for a period of 4 years. To clarify, as an apprentice you and an employer have a formal agreement called a training contract. Generally your off-job training can be completed in 3 years.
Training in areas such as using food preparation equipment, work with others, cleaning a kitchen and hygiene will be provided. Furthermore, preparing simple dishes and sandwiches is covered, along with preparing stocks and sauces to name a few. As a result training students with pre-apprentice cookery skills to move into an apprenticeship.
Theory, coupled with practical and on the job training will be required as part of completing this cookery course. All practical training for this course is held in a fully equipped commercial kitchen. Therefore, graduates completing the cookery course will be offered a pathway to an apprenticeship with a partner venue.
Finally, all students are provided with the following:
- a uniform
- a knife kit
- text books
In addition, this cookery course is supported by the South Australian Government as a result of the Skilling South Australia Initiative. Therefore this course will be fully funded for eligible participants.
