Local Jobs Project

Workforce Australia Local Jobs is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations

This Government initiative offers participants a great interactive experience. Students receive skills training for entry level roles in hospitality or retail, with the opportunity to meet with local employers who are looking for staff.

Below, a few of our students acquired skills to Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee using industry standard commercial espresso machines and grinders.

We teach and demonstrate the art of coffee making, followed by the students, who then can make the various espresso coffees found in Café and Restaurants today. The course also includes how to clean and maintain coffee equipment and food safety.

'Go Hospo!' gets jobs

Congratulations to 'Go Hospo!' participant Emily who secured employment with a host employer the Matthews Group.

Representing the Matthews Group, Katy met with each Go Hospo group at Salisbury, expressing how they are always actively seeking staff and those jobs they were currently trying to fill. Leaving students with her business card, Emily reached out to Katy that day and commenced employment the day after training had completed! Emily loves her job in hospitality and particularly enjoys the patron interaction. As well as making some great friends, the skills acquired as a result of this training have been valuable in her employment.

Talking HITsa

Get Ready for Cleaning Skill Set SSDIS01006

Student Testimonal by Jayden S

"HITsa was a surprising and refreshing take on what most have come to understand and expect from training and employment services. As someone who has personally specialised in multiple training courses, I had come to realise that a lot of companies that offer such services had been somewhat lacking in multiple areas, whether that would be confusing sections within our supplied learning booklets, unenthusiastic lecturers or lacking facilities.

However, when I arrived at HITsa and was immediately greeted by the wonderful desk staff, and promptly received a tour of the establishment, along with having a pleasant talk with a number of the lecturers and coordinaters, I could immediately tell that those at HITsa were passionate about the work they were conducting, and were just as excited as I was to be part of growing my skill set.

To start off, the establishment and the facilities themselves are compact but perfect for anything a student would need. Students are provided with a shared kitchen, as well as a fridge, microwave, boiling water, tea, coffee, milo and a jar of biscuits. They also provide milk and skim milk for students to freely use.

The curriculum itself was thoroughly enjoyable, with a majority of the work being direct and hands on, giving me the opportunity to place what I had learned in the classroom into real life situations. The booklets were easy to understand and coherent, and made no waste of effort in focusing on what we would be dealing with on a daily basis inside the working environment, allowing me to feel confident to step out into the work force.

The greatest asset that HITsa has is their staff. Every single member of the HITsa team were enthusiastic and enjoyable to learn from, and most importantly, were clearly interested and knowledgeable in the fields that they were teaching to students. There was never a moment where I had a question to ask, that a lecturer wasn't able to answer confidently.

I'm extremely thankful to HITsa for everything they have done for me through my time with them, and I'll certainly have them in mind whenever I'm interested in taking on another course that they provide."

If you thought the fundamentals of cleaning were basic, think again. Come and try our cleaning skill set training for full industry knowledge standards in under 2 short weeks!

Meet the Trainer

Nicole has been a trainer at HITsa for many years.

Where were you born:

I was born right here in Adelaide at the old Queen Victoria Hospital.

Tell us about your family:

Being from European heritage, I have a very big family who are situated all over the world and interstate. Here in Adelaide, I live with my husband and 3 children in the western suburbs.

If you had to pick one strength you bring to the team, what would that be:

I'm very passionate about training to a high standard, always striving to bring my best self to work and especially for my students. It's really a very rewarding experience to have students who you see grow and develop through their apprenticeship or traineeships and complete their studies with skills, abilities, and confidence in their chosen industry.

What have you taught previously:

I teach cookery, hospitality, business, and leadership as well as RSA and coffee training.

What is your proudest achievement:

My proudest achievement is becoming a mum and raising my beautiful girls and stepson. A job with endless hours, sweat and (sometimes) tears but the most rewarding, fulfilling, and joyous thing I've ever done.

Being sworn into council as a councillor for City I Charles Sturt West Woodville Ward.

This, being my very first experience with running in council elections I have had to learn very quickly about the election process and all that is involved. I am so proud, that my husband can be proud of his wife, that my children can be proud of their Mum, as she had an idea, put in the hard work and won.
