Health Skills Centre - Upgrade to Mobility Equipment

HITsa has new lifters for training purposes within its skills centre.

The Sara Stedy lifter is unique as it can be used by a single caregiver to assist clients in performing sit to stand transfers throughout the day, promoting early mobilisation by encouraging patients to be active during these transfers.

Trainers have been using this equipment within aged care facilities and remarked on how easy they are to use, with the convenience of only requiring one person to safety operate this equipment. Another benefit of the Sara Stedy is that it is a non-powered device.

The Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling reviewed Sara Stedy and awarded it a DSDC Product Accreditation Rating Class 1B

HITsa Partners with Tauondi College

Since 2021, HITsa has been working in partnership with Tauondi college to deliver Certificate III in Business to students, as part of their traineeships within a variety of Government offices.

Darrin A is about to complete his last unit in the qualification Certificate III Business BSB30120 after 18 months of study. He has been a star student; always presenting eager to participate and engage in his classes.

Here is a brief reflection from Darrin about his experience at HITsa as he looks towards completing his qualification:

“My name is Darrin, I am an older aboriginal man that decided to make a change in life. I was driving a forklift in a factory doing 12 hour night shifts. I was lucky enough to find employment with the Department of Child protection as a BSO 2, on sign up with the department I started my Certificate 3 in Business course with HITSa at Tauondi college. The whole process from day one has been very enjoyable. The course has been presented very professionally and easy to follow. HITsa staff have been outstanding and helpful and the Tauondi staff have been my rock throughout the whole process. I would certainly recommend taking the trainee step and getting accredited, it’s made so easy why wouldn’t you?”

HITsa Delivers Training in the Riverland

In the Riverland, HITsa has delivered training to Nippy's employees over the last 24 months at their Moorook location.

Student Shaun is about to complete his Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. Shaun is in management and has kept up with study even through their peak season.

Here is what he has to say about his training experience:

“I have enjoyed the class times. It has given me a broader learning of what it is like in leadership and I have used my knowledge gained through the sessions within our company.
Only downfalls I can pinpoint would be the first few sessions. We seemed to be cramming heaps of info in to such a short amount of time, and the homework aspects seem to take up more time than some people have to spare.
Mark has been a great help with encouraging class members to be involved”.

HITsa Partners with Atwork Australia in the Mid North Coast

HITsa are working in close partnership with AtWork Australia, Bentleys Hotel (Clare), Angas Hotel (Nuriootpa), and the Port Pirie Football Club (Port Pirie). The program will upskill and prepare participants across Disability Employment and Workforce Australia streams for employment within the hospitality industry.

All 45 participants will complete the following units of training in preparation for work placement into positions in hospitaliy venues on the Mid North Coast:

  • Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol
  • Basic Gaming
  • Process Financials Transactions

HITsa Partners with Youth Options

Trainers have been out to deliver employability skills to Youth Options clients in Murray Bridge, as part of upskilling this cohort of students living regionally.

Between February and April, students will gain practical and theoretical skills in units such as:

  • Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee
  • Food Hygiene
  • Working effectively in a service environment
  • Engage the Customer
  • Balancing a point of sale system
  • Communicating in the workplace
  • Provide responsible service of alcohol

HITsa Partners with Barossa Enterprises

HITsa has partnered with Barossa Enterprises - the largest employer of People with Disability in regional SA, supporting over 100 people in the Barossa, Clare and McLaren Vale wine regions.

HITsa are upskilling an eager group of 12 existing workers through the delivery of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) at their workplace in Nuriootpa.

Students will obtain their qualification combining self-paced online learning with face-to-face classroom delivery.

HITsa has partnered with Cabra Dominican College this month to deliver training at Clarence Gardens the units "Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee" and "Hygiene Practices for Food Safety".

HITsa creates partnerships and tailors training to secondary schools to support students in learning industry skills whilst contributing toward their SACE points through stackable VET.

Back in the Kitchen

And just like that January is over and HITsa heads back into its commercial kitchen to kick off another year of cookery programs. Our trainers Nicole and Aman have been soaking the chef whites so that they are sparkling for our first classes.

Our first Cookery Skill Set for the year [SSDIS01007 Basic Skills for the Food Industry] commenced at the end of January and practical classes will commence at the kitchen in February. If you are keen to consider a career in cookery this is an ideal platform to give you some basic skills including hygiene, safe food handling and basic cookery skills.... ideal for someone who may want work in a commercial kitchen including aged care facilities.

Lundi is currently undertaking study at HITsa Clarence Gardens to gain a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management under traineeship arrangements as part of her employment.

This is what Lundi has to say about her experience training at HITsa:

"I decided to pursue this path to develop further skills and knowledge in my career. It has been quite challenging, yet extremely engaging and interesting.

I have enjoyed many units such as; Implement customer service strategies, Articulate present and debate ideas and Lead difficult conversations'. HITsa Pre-employment Training

HITsa partners with ACA

In January, HITsa welcomed 12 students from all over the metro area to undertake Pre-Employment Training for potential employment with ACA [Appreticeship Careers Australia].

HITsa has a continuing partnership with ACA to deliver our skill set "Entry into Care Roles" at Clarence Gardens.

The students will gain 3 accredited units from the "Entry into Care Roles" Skills Set and obtain their First Aid and a couple of non-accredited units.

This Skill Set takes 2 short weeks, and for those students who successfully completed the course, ACA will endeavour to secure them employment.

Rory's Group Australia Skills 2 Work Program

HITsa has established a pre-employment pathway with Rory's Group Australia and Atwork Australia to create a smooth transition for participants interested in working in the hospitality industry into employment through two weeks of relevant entry level training.

In January, 32 participants were given the opportunity to train with HITsa across both sites as part of this pre-employment program. 28 of these completed the training. There was a high percentage of employment outcomes for the students who completed their training.

I am exceptionally organised and consider myself to be a great communicator.

I am passionate about aged care and intern being able to connect with students to demonstrate the importance of working with vulnerable persons within our communities.
