Orange Basket - Seaford Café grand opening

Orange Basket Community Services is a South Australian not-for-profit and public-facing Australian Disability Enterprise creating paid employment pathways for people living with disability.

Through cafés, laundry, confidential paper shredding, and community programs, participants are supported to develop practical workplace skills, confidence, communication, routine, and independence in active community environments.

We were very proud to be apart of the opening of Orange Basket’s latest venture - the Seaford Café - located inside Betta Seaford (3/33 Seaford Road).

Julie was on site to not only celebrate the Mayor’s cutting of the ribbon but to also enjoy a wonderful barista made coffee.

HITsa is a proud supporter of Orange Basket, one of 6 charities receiving donations from HITsa Charitable Fun this financial year.

Congratulations on a fantastic opening and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Meet Delsha

Delsha is studying Masers of Psychology at Flinders University and has been on placement at HITsa Salisbury for the last 4 months, gaining valuable experience as a member of our Student Services team.

Delsha, during your time here on placement through your masters studies, how do you feel that HITSA Student services have supported the students in a holistic way?
HITSA support students overall by looking at their well being, just not their studies. I think they work with the students and connect them with the right support when needed and it has been great, fantastic.

Student Services aim to promote compassionate support through collaboration with other external services. How do you how do you think external services have supported the students?
I think external support services played a pretty much important role helping us just to get over the students challenges such as mental health, housing and financial assistance which helps students to overcome their challenges which affected the studies and then succeed in their studies.

How do you think you could bring HITsa into your space as a lifelong journey of learning?
I think I can bring it to my journey too because it helped me to understand how this world like how the organisations, different organisations collaborate each other and work together to help one individual.

Would you recommend HITSA to your friends and family?
Yes, definitely because HITSA provides a very welcoming and warm support like supportive environment for all the students and or any like anyone who comes, not only the students.

Do you feel that HITsa is delivering a professional and quality service that is showcasing the universities and/or those that are looking outside in?
Yes, because I think the staff are very professional, supportive and always focused on what they are doing and provides the necessary support for the students in order to get the get their studies completed and succeed in their careers, which they are expecting to do.

Do you have any recommendations for improvements?
I will just ask you all to just keep continuing your all your support you give to the students in the way that you do.

Remember Our Expo Students? Here's Where They Are Now!

When we attended the Health Industry Expo earlier this year, we shared how our students were making valuable industry connections and exploring the many career opportunities available across the health and community services sector.

Just a few months later, we're excited to share an update—and it's safe to say those connections have turned into incredible outcomes.

Hugh

Hugh was one of the students who attended the expo. Following the event, he completed his Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) in record time—the fastest completion to date at HITSA, Mount Gambier. The industry connections he made at the expo opened the door to employment opportunities, and before he had even completed his qualification, Hugh had already secured employment in the disability sector.

Hugh's journey is a fantastic example of how commitment, hard work and meaningful industry connections can fast-track the transition from training into employment.

Alex

Alex commenced her Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) as a VETRO student while still at school, taking the first steps towards a career in the aged care sector.

Her story is another wonderful example of how networking can create opportunities. During the expo, Alex connected with representatives from Uniting Communities, and we're delighted to share that she has now commenced employment with Uniting Communities in Aged Care. Transitioning from school into her chosen career is a fantastic achievement, and we look forward to watching Alex continue to grow within the industry.

Hannah

Hannah has also reached an exciting milestone. After attending the expo and exploring the many career pathways available within the health industry, Hannah has now been accepted into a university nursing qualification.

While she is continuing to complete her Certificate III in Individual Support, the knowledge, and practical skills she is gaining will provide a strong foundation for her future nursing studies. Individual Support is a fantastic pathway into nursing, giving students valuable hands-on experience and industry knowledge before commencing university.

It's incredibly rewarding to see our students gain employment, build meaningful industry connections, and continue their education.

Congratulations to Hugh, Alex, and Hannah. We can't wait to see where your journeys take you next!

June Training Highlights – Expanding Skills, Access and Employment Pathways

June was a significant month of delivery across our offsite training programs, with a strong focus on building practical skills, supporting diverse learner cohorts, and strengthening pathways into employment and further training.

Across South Australia and Victoria, a range of accredited qualifications and introductory programs were delivered in partnership with key stakeholders, each designed to meet the needs of participants at different stages of their vocational journey.

A key highlight was the delivery of the CPP30321 Certificate III in Cleaning Operations in partnership with Workskil at our Salisbury site. This program supported participants to develop essential industry skills in workplace hygiene, safety, and operational cleaning standards, providing a strong foundation for employment in the cleaning and facilities sector.

In the retail training space, we continued delivery of the SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail across offsite locations with Jobs Statewide at Oaklands and Elizabeth. These programs focus on customer service capability, communication skills, teamwork, and real-world retail operations, equipping participants with the skills required to enter or progress within the retail industry.

We also delivered a pilot Intro to Retail VETRO program at Springbank College, supporting students with disabilities to engage in structured vocational learning. As a pilot, the program provided valuable opportunity to test and refine delivery approaches while ensuring accessibility and engagement for all participants. Students were exposed to key retail concepts, workplace expectations and foundational employability skills, with a strong emphasis on participation, confidence building, and pathway exploration into future training and employment.

In Victoria, we delivered the CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services in partnership with Jobs Statewide, supporting participants to develop core skills relevant to the community services sector and n addition we supported industry through the delivery of Provide First Aid training with Carers SA ensuring all carers skills are up to date to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Across all programs, a consistent focus remained on practical skill development, learner engagement, and creating meaningful pathways into employment and further training opportunities. Delivering across multiple sites and cohorts also reinforced the importance of flexible, responsive training models that meet learners where they are.

We look forward to continuing to expand our offsite delivery model in the coming months, strengthening partnerships, supporting even more participants to gain confidence, capability, and recognised qualifications.

CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care Mt Barker.

Mondays at Mt Barker are always fun, as this is the day we welcome our Early Childhood Education and Care students to campus. From experiencing sensory play, to nappy changing competitions, and even the serious business of learning first aid, there is always lots of laughter from the Childcare room.

Behind all the laughter, and the play, is the learning. And isn’t this the perfect way to attain the Certificate III in Early Education and Childcare? In a low-pressure, vocational education format, allowing students to practice skills and achieve competency. The class is a lovely mixture, including school students studying as part of the VET in Schools program, new entrants to the workforce, and others re-training for a new career in early childhood education. This variety provides a great blend of experience and youth, which is perfect in this learning environment.
