Skills that get jobs
A Coffee HIT so good, they’re coming back for seconds!
Earlier this year, Headspace in Murray Bridge were HITsa’s first partners to experience HITsa’s mobile coffee training facilities. The program was so successful that Headspace are already planning their next course.
“We wanted to say a big thank you to Carlo and the Team at HITsa for running our Barista and Food Safety course.”
We have had positive feedback from the group who enjoyed the relaxed and supportive environment. The young people in the course gained a lot from both the hands-on practice making coffees, and Carlo’s insights into the hospitality industry! While many of the young people were feeling nervous for the course, it was fantastic to see everyone settle in and become more confident.
We were so pleased that this year we had the option to run the course from our own offices using your mobile coffee machines. This made the training so much more accessible for our young people and was a big part of the reason many of them were able to access this training at all.” Sarah J

Celebrating Success at HITSA 🎉
Today we proudly celebrated the achievements of three dedicated students from Resthaven Aged Care who have officially completed their studies with HITSA!
Over the course of their training, the students demonstrated commitment, compassion, resilience, and a genuine passion for the aged care industry. Balancing work responsibilities alongside study is no small achievement, and each student should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.
Well done Cherie, Jade & Riley!
Cherie
Cherie decided to pursue a career in aged care after providing hairdressing services to elderly residents at Bordertown Hospital. Through these experiences, she discovered a passion for supporting older people and loved the strong sense of community that aged care offers.
Cherie finds the work incredibly rewarding and says one of her favourite parts of the industry is connecting with clients and hearing their amazing life stories. She also loved completing her training with HITSA, particularly interacting with fellow students, and learning from her trainer.
Jade
Jade decided to pursue a career in aged care as her grandparents live in the UK, and she felt strongly about wanting to connect with and support elderly people within the community. She loves helping others and says she has a real soft spot for the elderly. Jade said she has really enjoyed ‘showing up’ to training and will miss coming into HITSA. She also thanked her trainer Sandra for being such a kind and supportive teacher throughout her studies.
Riley
Riley decided to pursue aged care after seeing how well his grandfather was supported through aged care services within the community. Wanting to help others in the same way inspired him to become involved in the industry. Riley enjoyed coming to HITSA throughout his training and says he now feels more confident moving forward in his career supporting elderly people in need.

Benefits of a smaller class size
At HITsa, we limit the size of our short courses to ensure we can meet the needs of our students. Recent feedback suggests that students appreciate the smaller class sizes and value our face-to-face training with an experienced trainer.
Bigger student numbers can encourage diverse discussion and input, but smaller classes certainly have advantages too.
Smaller groups ensure that each participant has opportunity to contribute, and ideas are shared equally amongst participants, fostering an inclusive, open and cohesive learning environments where students feel safe to join in.
Smaller groups also offer opportunity for HITsa trainers and support staff to provide individual support which may assist to reduce anxiety and help to build confidence.
Please reach out to HITsa to discuss any personal learning needs - we’re here to help, and have many course options that may suit.
Communicate without speaking
“SIRXCOM001 - Communicating in the workplace to support team and customer outcomes” is a unit inclusion of several Retail and Hospitality skills courses delivered by HITsa. Students take part in a fun activity called the Paper Chain Challenge. During this challenge students must create a paper chain using only A4 sheets of paper, scissors and sticky tape. Each can only use one hand and they cannot speak to others in the group. This is a fantastic activity to practice teamwork, communication, and problem-solving - especially under constraints like silence and limited mobility.
When asked what they found most challenging the students responded with:
“Non-verbal communication”; “Everything was challenging; being non-verbal was the hardest part”; “Only using one hand”.
And what did they learn from doing the activity?
“A new way to communicate”; “Teamwork is important; everyone has to carry their own weight; using body language and reading each other’s body language”'; “Beware of scissors!”
A great example of HITsa’s understanding that practical training can be much more impactful than traditional lecture style delivery.
