SIT20421 – Certificate II in Cookery

The Certificate II in Cookery will reflect the role of individuals working in kitchens who use a defined and limited range of food preparation and cookery skills to prepare food and menu items. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision.

This qualification does not provide the skills required by commercial cooks, which are covered in SIT30816 – Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

This cookery qualification will get students ready for work in any of the following roles:

Breakfast Cook
Café Cook
Catering Assistant
Chef Assistant
Fast Food Cook

Students completing a Certificate II in Cookery can then go on to complete a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery to become a qualified chef under an apprenticeship arrangement.

Course Details

SIT20421 – Certificate II in Cookery

This training is offered through a rolling intake therefore students can commence at any time.

Training is delivered over a nominal term of 12 months full-time or part-time equivalent. A timetable will be developed for each trainee as determined by the employer and trainee.

A training plan will be developed with the student and the employer to include core and elective units prior to enrolment.

Training will be conducted at our training rooms (theory) and at our commercial kitchen (practical).

Training will include a mix of self-paced and face-to-face training sessions.

Assessment will include a combination of both theory knowledge and practical observation as well as third party observation.

This course is funded by the State Government through the Subsidised Training List (eligibility criteria applies).

If eligible for subsidised training, a $400 student co-contribution is payable upon commencement (this is non-refundable should you decide to withdraw or not complete the qualification).
